College planning advice is everywhere. Knowing what actually applies to your student is harder.
Between rankings, forums, school counselors, AI advice, social media, and even parent-to-parent comparisons, families are surrounded by a wealth of information, but still missing a clear plan. We help students and parents understand what actually matters for your unique situation.
So, what really matters?
College admissions can make every choice feel high-stakes: which classes to take, which activities to continue, when to test, and what stories to highlight in essays.
We help families cut through the noise, focusing on the decisions that actually fit your student’s unique personality, goals, strengths, and timeline.
What should students say?
Strong applications aren’t built from “perfect”-sounding answers. They come from students who understand their own experiences, values, and growth clearly enough to write about them confidently.
We guide students through reflection, brainstorming, writing, and revision so their essays feel thoughtful, compelling, authentic, and genuinely their own.
What happens, and when?
Families often know there are important steps ahead, but not always which ones need attention now vs. which can wait.
We create a clear timeline for courses, activities, testing, summer planning, college research, essays, and deadlines. Students move forward with prompt guidelines, and parents feel informed without having to manage every detail.
A clearer process: from your first question to your final submission.
We help families move from uncertainty to action with a structured process that adapts to your student’s grade, aspirations, and timeline.

Great question. There’s no “one solution fits all” since each student is different. Some families start long-term planning in middle school, some begin in the middle of high school, and some kick off Fall of 12th grade.
Families looking to uplevel their student’s academic journey, in anticipation of college apps, benefit from starting early in (or even before) high school. Among the benefits here is the opportunity for 9th grade curriculum/summer planning.
For families seeking targeted application preparation help, we generally recommend starting no later than the first half of summer before 12th grade. With college apps opening on ~August 1st, starting in June/July still gives us enough time to understand your student, build their strategy, and develop their story throughout the rest of summer. (But it’s never too late to start! Check out our free in-depth guide to the college app season.)

This really depends on the family’s preferences and the level of support we’re providing. Some parents want regular updates and strategic involvement, while others prefer us to work primarily with the student and step in only at key moments. We tailor our communication process and parental involvement for each family.

No, and no good college counselor should. Admissions decisions depend on many factors outside any one person’s control, including institutional priorities, applicant pools, major competitiveness, and timing. (And as with anything in life, sometimes just plain luck!)
What we do guarantee is thoughtful strategy, honest feedback, strong organization and time management, and fact-based guidance — all designed to give your student a better shot at presenting their strongest possible application and story.

Our initial consultation usually lasts about an hour. We use this time to learn about your student’s background, activities, interests, experiences, goals, and current stage in the process. Families are welcome to ask us about academic planning, extracurricular upleveling, college lists, applications, essays, standardized testing, or timelines (or anything else!).
From there, we’ll help identify the most useful next steps. It’s very important for us that your family feels both comfortable moving forward and that we’re a good fit.

For college counseling throughout middle to high school, we offer both package pricing and à la carte hourly rates, with most families opting for packages. We understand how varied each family’s needs are, and offer multiple tiers of packages and involvement. (Our high-level support for independent, hands-on families seeking direction looks very different from our bespoke support for families seeking a white glove experience, and this is reflected in our pricing.) For college applications, our pricing depends on the number of schools we help your student apply to.
After our initial conversation, we’ll provide your family with a transparent proposal and quote.

No, because we believe the strongest college essays should sound like the student, not their parent, counselor, or AI. Our role is to help students brainstorm meaningful themes, organize their ideas, strengthen their structure, and revise thoughtfully. Their final essay then tells the best, most compelling version of their story — in their own voice.

Absolutely. We offer both virtual and in-person options for all of our services. We’ve supported families and students through the college application season who are based across the country, including in Central California, Michigan, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Yes, we support students applying to transfer colleges (including UC transfer applicants). Transfer applications require a different approach and strategy than first-year apps, especially when it comes to major preparation, career goals, personal insight questions, and explaining why a new college environment is the right fit.
