Building a stronger strategy and story for a BS/DMD international applicant
Challenge
This student entered senior year with strong extracurriculars and a clear pre-dental direction, but comparatively weaker academics (i.e. unweighted GPA under 3.8). English wasn't the native language, making essay coaching especially important.
How we helped
We built a balanced college list, shaped the overall application strategy, and connected extracurricular strengths to long-term goals. We worked extensively on essay development, telling a more compelling story and crafting thoughtful special circumstances essays to provide helpful context for academics.
Outcome
Among their acceptances, this student was admitted to one of the country’s most selective BS/DMD programs and a ~T40 university with a <10% acceptance rate.
Turning passion and extracurricular depth into a cohesive T10 application
Challenge
This student had genuine passion and a dream school, with an academic profile as the relative weakness (i.e. not straight A's; SAT score in the bottom 25% for top-choice school). The essays also had strong raw material, but initially lacked clear cohesion and direction.
How we helped
We broke the application process down into manageable pieces, project managed, and strategically presented strengths. Through essay development, we helped refine the stories, connect experiences more deeply, and build an application that felt more focused and authentic.
Outcome
The student was admitted to their dream school, an Ivy League, with an application that reflected the depth of their passions, personality, and personal story.
Guiding an uncertain student toward a public university path that fit
Challenge
This student had a wide range of grades (A's-C's) and entered the college application process without a clear sense of direction. More so than a “perfect” application, structure and encouragement was needed.
How we helped
We helped this student stay on track with application progress and remain accountable when motivation was low. We also coached on college possibilities, understanding options, reflecting during discovery, and approaching the process with more confidence.
Outcome
The student committed to a UC campus that we believe is a strong fit for their interests, goals, and next stage of growth. Just as importantly, they moved from hesitation toward seeing college as a part of their future.
